I don't know how many times I have driven by this church and never really seen what was right there. I found that the word Integrity in front of this old gothic church that could lend some resemblance to a Catholic Church, ironic. The Catholic Church has been under scrutiny for sexual abuse and the fact that the elders looked the other way and let it happen all these years creates anger in a lot of people in our society. It seemed droll to me that the word Integrity was so boldly displayed in front of something that should be of the highest moral standards in our society and yet it's not.
I felt that I wanted to display this in a black and white format to demonstrate the darkness that still haunts several religions in this day and age. It's as if to say it's ok to do anything you want during the week as long as you come in on Sunday, or Saturday...depending on your faith, and ask for forgiveness. This gives you Integrity? I have a very strong faith and am very spiritual and I have sometimes struggled with my own adherence to moral and ethical issues, so when I see this strong word in front of something that has struggled over the years to prove its moral character and honesty, it makes me really stop and think of my true feelings and beliefs in religion.
